The World Federation of the Deafblind (WFDB) Women’s Committee is proud to present Every Deafblind Woman Has a Story Worth Telling, a video initiative supported by the EDF Women’s Grant.
The video brings together Deafblind women from Greece, Finland, Spain, Uganda and Croatia, who share their experiences in their own languages and preferred forms of communication. Their testimonies address identity, independence, communication barriers, discrimination, violence, access to support and the strength found in self-acceptance and solidarity.
Women with deafblindness experience intersecting discrimination based on both gender and disability. They face increased barriers to healthcare, education, employment and social participation, as well as a greater risk of violence, abuse and isolation. However, research focusing specifically on Deafblind women remains extremely limited, and their experiences are too often absent from policies and decision-making.
Through this initiative, Deafblind women speak for themselves—sharing not only the barriers they encounter but also their resilience, knowledge and determination to defend their rights.
The testimonies are presented in Greek, Finnish, Spanish, Ugandan and Croatian Sign Languages, as well as spoken Greek. English subtitles are provided throughout. Most testimonies include English voice-over, while the Spanish testimonies retain their original Spanish voice-over.
