The sixth edition of the ASSIST Project Newsletter is now available, focusing on the leadership, visibility, and lived experiences of women with deafblindness.
Released in connection with Deafblindness Awareness Month, Helen Keller Week, and the International Day of Deafblindness, this edition highlights how women with deafblindness are increasingly shaping conversations on gender equality, disability rights, healthcare, accessibility, and inclusion.
The newsletter also reflects on the importance of the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its continued relevance for women and girls with disabilities, particularly in the context of accessible and inclusive healthcare.
This issue features updates on:
- the growing global leadership of women with deafblindness;
- WFDB President Sanja Tarczay, PhD, and her contribution at Women Deliver 2026;
- the establishment of the WFDB Women Committee;
- the relevance of women’s leadership for the goals of the ASSIST Project;
- Croatia’s first-ever Fashion Show of Deafblind Women, organised by the Croatian Deafblind Association DODIR;
- the availability of the ASSIST Digital Learning Platform, offering six free training modules on inclusive and accessible healthcare for mothers and women with disabilities.
The ASSIST Project continues to promote more inclusive healthcare systems by strengthening professional training, challenging discriminatory attitudes, and amplifying the voices of women with disabilities.
